Wear a Compression Garment or Sports Bra 24/7

Whether you choose to wear the compression garment you were placed in after your breast lift surgery or wear your favorite sports bra, doing so can help you recover faster. The reason – these garments minimize swelling, improve blood flow to your breasts which promotes faster healing, provides much-needed support to the surgical site, and helps to flush harmful fluids away from your body. Unless you’re taking a shower – which you should only do after Dr. Vu has cleared you to do so – you should be wearing your compression garment or sports bra to speed up your plastic surgery recovery.

Take Your Post-Op Medications Exactly as Directed

Dr. Vu may prescribe you painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs after your breast lift surgery. It’s important that you fill these prescriptions at your go-to Huntington Beach pharmacy and take them exactly as prescribed – even if you need to wake up in the middle of the night, so you don’t miss a dose.

Don’t Use Tobacco Products

Smoking, vaping, and using chewing tobacco can cause your blood vessels to constrict – at the exact time you need as much blood flow to your breasts as possible. While Dr. Vu requires his Huntington Beach patients to quit using tobacco products before their breast lift surgeries, he knows that sometimes it can be tempting to restart the habit after you’ve been released from the surgical center. As hard as it is, you need to refrain from using tobacco products while recovering. While it can be a huge mental challenge, you’ll reap the benefits of abstaining by achieving a faster recovery. If you need help with a smoking cessation program, ask Dr. Vu for a recommendation.

Take it Easy and Relax

Dr. Vu knows that many women are always on the go, but after having a breast lift, it’s time for some R&R. Pull out that laptop and binge-watch that Netflix or Amazon Prime show you’ve been meaning to watch and keep your feet up. By resting and relaxing, you allow your body to focus more on recovery and less on sustaining your normal daily exertion level.

Go on Short Walks

While it’s important to rest after your surgery, you shouldn’t be lying in bed all day long. Take short walks around your home throughout the day. This will help reduce the risk of developing a post-op blood clot.

Avoid Exercise and Heavy Lifting – Including Small Children

Many Huntington Beach women love to hit the gym, or Pilates or yoga studio, but after surgery, it’s time for an exercise break. Ideally, patients should abstain from exercise and heavy lifting – including lifting or carrying small children – for 6 weeks after surgery.
