Patient 1
This 60-year-old patient initially underwent a double mastectomy in June 2014, followed by her first breast reconstruction in October 2014 with tissue expanders. In February 2015, those expanders were replaced with silicone breast implants. Over time, she began noticing creasing on both breasts, inadequate projection, and breast animation irregularities, prompting her to seek a revision consultation with Dr. Steve Vu.
In January 2025, Dr. Vu performed the first stage of her revision surgery. This involved removing the existing implants and surrounding scar tissue through a capsulectomy, then placing new tissue expanders. Over the following months, the expanders were gradually filled to 800cc to help achieve her desired volume.
By July 2025, the second stage of reconstruction was completed. The expanders were removed and replaced with 755cc high-profile Mentor MemoryShape silicone gel implants. Incisions were approximately 8 cm in length, with careful attention given to releasing the previous creasing and creating a more balanced and natural breast contour.
The after photos show a significant improvement in volume, shape, and crease correction. The patient reported that her breasts now feel much more natural and that she’s pleased with the improved animation. In the future, she may consider fat grafting to address minor rippling caused by thin skin post-radiation.
